Hair Review: Ion Color "Dusty Rose"

               So as some of you know I am a frequent visitor of Sally Beauty Supply. So much so that most of the employees know me by name! Anyway, I recently went in to Sally's with my friend to get some new hair dye. We are constantly trying new hair colors and techniques on her, because she views her hair as exactly that, hair. The most recent hair experiment was a new permanent fashion color line, brought out by Ion, named "Dusty Rose". My friend has been obsessing over rose shades and hues recently, and the moment we were introduced to the color line, we new we needed to try this rosey shade. Unfortunately there was no swatch to see what the color was suppose to look like, but my like I said my friend is pretty fearless with her hair. So we decided to try "Dusty Rose"!

               Like all the other colors in Ion's line you must mix the color with either a 10, 20, or 30 vol. developer. After much deliberation with our favorite Sally's employee we decided to get both 10 and 20 vol. developer and to do a strand test to see which worked best. So we paid for our product and high-tailed it home to give this new color a try.

               My friend started out with a nice level 8 or 9 blonde which is plenty light enough for a color to take. 

We then proceeded to do the strand tests, one side with 10 vol., the other with 20.

                     This photo does it no justice, but the 10 worked the best as I previously thought. So we then continued on with thoughts of what we wanted to do with this color! Should we do a section? Should we do the whole head? Then we thought a little more and came up with just doing a nice ombre/balayage. If you don't know what that is I have one question for you. "HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK?" Anyways if you don't know balayage is a technique typically done with a balayage paddle were you saturate the color or lightener on the ends and feather the color up towards the head. This technique is personally my favorite, and I used it to color my friend to her previous blonde state.

                      We then proceeded to heavily balayage the color all over her head.  

                    The directions said to leave the color on for 35 to 40 minutes, but we decided to check it ever 15 minutes until we thought it looked correct. We ended up leaving it to process for the full 45 minutes so the color was super saturated.

This was the color we were left with. Of course this picture yet again doesn't do it justice, but I will be more than happy to share a picture/video of what it looks like in sunlight when I get a chance.
